FOX SPORTS, A-ROD, SCOTT BORRIS and the 2007 world series

What a Series…The Red Sox won again for the 2nd time in 4 years and like 2004 it was a come from behind win in the ALCS followed by a sweep in the World Series. Last night would have been perfect except for the fact that A-Rod, Scot Borris and Fox Sports thought there were issues more important then the World Series. Yep, 6 innings into Game 4 of a potential sweep, Fox Sport’s Ken Rosenthal broke in with late braking news that was much more important (yeah right) then the Series: A-Rod decided to Opt out of his contract with the NY Yankees. But this is Game 4 of a potential World Series sweep so who cares about A-Rod?

I understand that Fox Sports has an obligation to report sports news, but do you really think producers didn’t know this news before the game started? My cynical mind tells me they did, but chose to wait until a more appropriate time in Fox’s broadcast to announce it. In this case, the more appropriate time was the 6th inning when they knew that with the exception of New Englanders, everybody on this half of the country was going to bed and a boost in ratings was needed. Mike Golic of ESPN said this morning that Fox had an obligation to report this, that A-Rod and Scot Borris were at fault for taking the lime light away from the Series. True, but Fox wasn’t reporting the news because of journalistic integrity, if they had, they would have reported it when they really learned the news. Fox Sports reported the news at a certain time to try to draw higher ratings.

So my Point is, if Fox waited on this story till the 6th inning, then they could have waited until after the Series to announce it or put it on the crawler. Give the World Series its due. But no, A-Rod is more important and the 10 minutes spent on this “news” turned into a huge distraction and blew out any dim spark the Series had. But I guess in world where A-Rod and Scott Borris need to be bigger then the World Series and make more money then Bill Gates; A world where journalistic integrity is out the window in favor of higher profits for shareholders, then this really shouldn’t surprise us.

Halloween Party

Our little "puppy" Charlotte, Chris and I went over to The Crossings today for a Halloween Party. The party was put on by the Town of Colonie and included Andy "Music Man" Morse, Spooky Story Time and a Parade. The parade along with wagon rides were supposed to be outside, but with all the rain it was moved inside.

After the party, the three of us came home and vegged for the afternoon. It was the first Saturday afternoon in a long time, the three of us were able to hang out and do nothing...A nice relaxing day.

Happy Birthday Laura

Last Sunday, we finally got around to celebrating Laura's Birthday. I won't say how old she is, but I will say she is 5 years older then me. Anyway, Mom made her meatloaf, Susie bought the cake and the weather was sunny and 75, so we spent most of the day outside.

Charlotte even took her first try on a bike. Click here for more photos of the day.

Happy Birthday Laura.

Turkey Land

Halloween is next week, but it's starting to look a lot like Thanksgiving around here. Apparently a flock of turkeys have taken resident in the woods behind our house and they have been wandering into our backyard looking for food. Chris said at one point, 6 were perched on the swing set and 2 more on the ground.

Chris did a little research to figure out why they have suddenly appeared. Chris found that these guys love acorns and our backyard is full of them. When you walk in the back yard. it's like you are walking on gravel.

Bulletin Boards & Sleeping Giants

If anyone needs an example of Bulletin Board Material, check out what Ryan Garko of the Cleveland Indians said after Game 5 of the ALCS.

"This Indians team is better than the Red Sox and will prove it once and for all in cramped Fenway Park. Sure, a home-field celebration would’ve been nice, but silencing Red Sox Nation in its house will be just as sweet. The champagne tastes just as good on the road as it does at home,” first baseman Ryan Garko said."

Needless to say, it was plastered all over the Red Sox locker room before game 6. Obviously the quote worked and the Sox went on to crush the Indians 12-2 and force Game 7, Sunday Night at Fenway Park.

I guess Papelbon was right: He woke a sleeping Giant!!!

Throw away the key

Another classic American story...According to MSNBC, "The mother of a 14-year-old who authorities say had a cache of guns, knives and explosive devices in his bedroom for a possible school attack was charged Friday with buying her son three weapons".

This women doesn't deserve a second chance...she should know better. Throw her in jail for a long, long time. End of story. Also, when is Americans going to get as pissed about this stuff as they did with the wardrobe malfunction during a Superbowl a couple of years ago. Yep, a simple glimpse of a breast caused Americans to go bonkers, caused legislatures to create laws raising indecency fines, caused the FCC to decide what I should or shouldn't watch. But what happens when kids/adults go on shooting sprees...nothing happens...not a single piece of legislation directed at gun control...NOTHING!!! Because in the words of Charlton Heston, former head of the NRA, "There are no good guns... there are no bad guns A gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing Any gun in the hands of a good man Is no threat to anyone except bad people". Makes sense...Yeah Right!

U2's Bono said it perfectly at one of their concerts I attended a few years back: "Six hundred and seventy six thousand Will go down in the streets of America With a bullet in the next 20 years 20 years, these bitter tears In a business of bitter tears.

Dave Is King Of Late Night

I have always considered David Letterman the King of Late Night. Better then Stewart, better then Carson, better the O'Brien and much much better then Leno. One of the main reason why I think he is king is his interviews. Dave is obviously an intelligent guy, he does his homework for each guest and at times his interviews can be very serious and other times they can be down right hysterical.

Check out Dave's interview with Paris Hilton from his September 28, 2007 show. I was rolling.

Bush vetoes child health insurance plan

According to MSNBC, Dubya did the expected today and vetoed a Bi-partisan child health insurance plan. It's pretty sad when and administration sees no problem with spending a half a trillion dollars (yes, that is trillion) on a war, yet he vetoes a bi-partisan bill that's sole purpose is to help Americans, especially children.

Can you imagine your 8 year old son or daughter coming home from school with a broken leg and you telling him or her: "I'm sorry, I won't pay to get your leg fixed...You will have to pay to get it fixed yourself". And then after you tell your kid that, you turn around and give your neighbor $20,000 for the hell of it.

How can anybody in their right mind think Dubya is a good president?
