Wednesday night at 8:00PM, millions of people across this great country will tune into CBS and prove to the world just how hypocritical we are. Yep, on this day CBS will air a show about a bunch of kids who were paid $5,000 each to play survivor of the
fittest. The network is calling this show "Kid Nation" but I'm just going to call it a show about legalized slave labor. Yes, CBS and their lawyers are obviously making the claim that it is legal and all precautions were taken to prevent any damaging long term effects and the network has hired
pediatricians and
psychologist to ensure bad things don't go down. Do you honestly think that bad things won't go down to some of the kids? You really think that this show will be a positive experience for all the participants?
Although it may be legal, my gut instinct is telling me this is a very bad idea and another instance of how our country is hypocritical. The network (and the show production company/staff), the
parents of the kids participating, the advertisers, the
pediatricians and the psychologist are all doing this show for one thing and one thing only...Money!!! The viewers are supporting the greed. And that is very sad. This country has had a history of protecting it's
children, but when some TV executive flashes dollar bills in front of our eyes and gives us a BS line about how the show won't have any
detrimental effect on the kids, we forget common sense and about our duty to protect the kids.
People will argue with me that I'm just being cynical. Yep, I am...But our duty as a parent is to protect our childeren. We teach them to not talk to strangers, yet we will believe a profit driven network and BS Con Artist producers that they will protect our Kids and our childeren are more important then their show...Yeah Right, OK!!! And pigs will fly too!! Remember, it is not our job to protect our kids, it's our duty. So do your duty: Don't tune in to "Kid Nation".
On a side note, this is the same network that got slammed for the infamous "Wardrobe
Malfunction". Everyone went nuts and said how it was such an evil thing to show
during a "Family Event". So "Wardrobe Malfunctions" are bad and "Slave Nation", I mean "Kid Nation" is OK?? Yes, that makes a lot of sense.
