History Repeats Itself Again
Chris and I finally got around to see "Good Night, and Good Luck" tonight on DVD. The movie came out in 2005 and is about broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow's fearless battle against Senator Joseph McCarthy. The movie stared David Strathairn, George Clooney, Robert Downey Jr., Patricia Clarkson, Jeff Daniels, Tate Donovan, Ray Wise and Frank Langella and was written by George Clooney & Grant Heslov and directed by George Clooney.
The movie was only 90 minutes, but, wow, did it get the point across of what happened in the 1950's. I don't want to go to much into the movie except to say that a strong argument could be made that what happened 50 years ago with McCarthy is happening again today with Dubya. This is one of those movies that I will be sure to recommend to Charlotte someday to watch, learn and remember. This is a movie that should be shown in every High School history class along with every college journalism class.
You know, it's amazing I don't remember ever learning about McCarthy in history class. It's almost like since that was such a dark period in the history of this country, we are afraid to teach our kids about it. Well McCarthism is one lesson we need to be sure to teach everybody so history doesn't repeat itself again.
"Good Night, and Good Luck" was excellent and I recommend it to everyone.
